红原鸡

红原鸡,Gallus gallus,个体寻常略大,是家鸡的野生祖先,为中国国家二级保护动物。

红原鸡栖息于海拔1000米以下的热带森林、次生竹林中,集群生活。分布范围包括印度次大陆北部、东北部及东部,中国南部,东南亚,苏门答腊及爪哇,引种至其他地区。红原鸡的基因组经测序大小约为1,043.19Mb,相关文章于2004年12月发表于Nature

特征

红原鸡雄鸟上体具金属光泽的金黄、橙黄或橙红色,并具褐色羽干纹。脸部裸皮、肉冠及肉垂红色,且大而显著。虹膜红褐或橙红,肉冠砖红,肉垂相似。脸、颏、喉及前颈的裸出部浅红色,上嘴黑褐,下嘴较浅,呈角黄色。跗蹠及趾等均铅褐以至蓝灰色,并具一个尖锐而向上曲的长距。雌鸟上体大部黑褐色,上背黄色具黑纹,胸部棕色,往后渐变为棕灰色。虹膜褐色,嘴角褐色,基部较暗。肉冠小,为洋红色,不具肉垂和距等。

习性

红原鸡是一种热带森林鸟类,主要栖息于低山、丘陵和山脚平原地带的热带雨林、常绿和落叶阔叶林、混交林、次生林、竹林,以及林缘灌丛、稀树草坡等各类生境中,有时甚至出现在村落附近的耕地上,特别喜欢在灌丛间活动。以植物的果实、种子、嫩竹、树叶、各种野花瓣为食,也吃白蚁、白蚁卵、蠕虫、幼蛾等。雄鸟独处,或与众雌鸟配偶,或其他雄鸟群栖。取食于地面但飞行能力强,夜栖树上。觅食方式和家鸡相似,用爪刨和用嘴啄,常常边走边觅食,尤其早晨和傍晚觅食活动最为频繁。
